Over the next two weeks, you will learn about all four of our executive board members and the nine junior board members. Our series continues with our Junior Board Vice President, Leia.
My name is Leia and I’m 14 years old, but I’ll be 15 mid-October. A lot of people describe me as intense, and that’s one of my favorite parts of my personality. I’m very passionate about what I care for and love. I dance hula and tahitian, play the ukulele, and spend a lot of time acting out skits from SNL with my best friend, Claire. Laughing is extremely vital to me, because it makes my frequent falls much more bearable. I want to be a doctor when I grow up, and I love helping people.
I joined Project Gia because feminism and women’s rights is something I’m extremely passionate about. Women don’t get enough credit for their contributions in the world and in history and I want to change that. I want girls to feel comfortable in their own bodies; I want girls to not have to worry about wage gaps or not being taken seriously in the workplace. I want girls to be proud of who they are, proud of being a feminist. Feminism is not a dirty word, it’s empowering and inspiring and I want to inspire the people around me the way I’m inspired by the women in my life. But most of all, I want a brighter future for girls and women. That’s why I joined Project Gia. And I’m extremely proud.
